The Speaker Lagos State house of Assembly, Rt, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has described drug abuse by the youths as worrisome. He remarked “the rate youths take drugs is worrisome and disheartening; parents too shouldn’t fail to monitor their children, law enforcement agents should monitor schools and uncompleted buildings where youths smoke. Ministry of Education and information should sensitize parents and youths on the effect of drug abuse, Obasa concluded that sales of herbs blended with alcohol should be banned in motor parks.
Hon. Abiodun Tobun in his contribution appreciated the motion moved by Hon. Desmond Elliott. Tobun said drug addiction is disease, once a person is hooked, it is hard to leave it” Tobun added that secondary school students use drug. He appealed to the Chairman Task Force to sweep on schools that are dens where they smoke. He said the suspects should be sent to prison and black spots to be identified.
However, the prime mover of the bill, Hon. Desmond Elliott said that house has resolved to call on Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to direct Ministry of Information to embark on anti-drug campaign and task force should ban the sales of alcohol in motor parks and school premises.
Hon. Mojeed Adebola said that we need campaign in schools; we should mandate principals to have anti-drug clubs. Chairman Task force must ban sales of drugs around schools and there should be regular monitoring of youths activities in Schools and other law makers supported the bill.
