The development of the past few days warrants that i commend the officers of the Ogun TRACE Corps specifically over the interception of the truck loaded with pepper and thirty (30) Hausa youths known as Almajiri on Monday 11th May, 2020. The youths were reported to have been clandestinely covered with tarpaulin at Joju area of Sango in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.
I want to express my deep gratitude to the eagle eyed Divisional TRACE officers that accosted the truck and led them back through the Tollgate through where they came in.
On Tuesday 12th May 2020 while coming from OGTV where i was interviewed on Igba Otun as a member of the legislative arm of Government, and where we examined the good efforts of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun on the management ans and containment of the COVID-19 pandemic, I saw over four officers of TRACE untied a big truck covered with tarpaulin at the Iyana Mortuary Flyover in Abeokuta in order to ascertain the goods the truck was carrying. It was simply professionalism at his peak.
I must confess that this patriotism is uncharacteristic of most uniformed Nigeria security Agencies. In this prevailing circumstances, what matters to some Uniformed Agencies is what they can collect as incentives not minding the content of the truck. I will enjoin all our security agencies to be more vigilant and pro-active like the Ogun TRACE Corps in combatting the spread of COVID-19. We must put all hands on deck to forestall the unlawful movement of Almajiri despite the interstate boundary closure by the Federal Government.
It is pertinent that i also use this medium to also enjoin our Southwest Governors to come together regardless of their political differences to preserve our territorial integrity like they did with Amotekun. It is hightime we strengthened our borders in the Southwest against infilteration and insurgency.
It saddens my heart that the Southwest is always deprived of the dividends of democracy. You can imagine that a 5000 naira stipend has alway been given in the North to the vulnerables for 5 years now, even before COVID-19. What did we gain in the south? The same north is being allowed to move freely despite the restriction order.
I commend the officers of the Ogun State TRACE for their decent, respectable and sensible approach to duty.
